About

My name is Atha. I'm a quilter turned amateur pattern designer. I'm based out of Arizona, where I live with my husband and our socially awkward dog.

If you're having trouble saying my name, don't worry. You're not alone! My mom changed the spelling of "Ada" in hopes that people would use the Spanish pronunciation. I can confidently report that this has not worked. A good rule of thumb is to say Arthur in a British accent. You'll get the pronunciation pretty close and I'll be reminded of the King Arthur nickname I had at tennis camp.

Fun fact: I almost named my pattern shop King Arthur Quilts as a nod to my name.

Who is Fancy Lad?

Fancy Lad is a reference to my dog, Kip, who frequently makes appearances over on Instagram. Why Fancy Lad when his name is Kip, you ask? My husband and I are weird and watch too much Love Island UK, so we
nicknamed him The Lad after hearing "Jack the Lad" in reference to an overly cocky dude. When not being a total couch potato, Kip is generally a menace who is undeterred by vertical structures and capable of amazing physical feats. The doggy daycare people say he's awkward.

About my patterns

Most of my patterns are inspired by a mix of pop culture and historical fashion. While I mainly design people or cute animals, I'll
occasionally venture out of my comfort zone to do things like flowers, buildings, or other random things. If you want to stay up to date on what I'm working on, check me out on Instagram!

Not all of the blocks that I make are for sale. If you do see something that you're interested in, feel free to reach out! I tend to determine how popular a pattern will be based on requests people have made, and I'm more likely to write something up if I hear from you.
